Owatonna Alumni Deliver Inspired Effort on Soccer Field
Harrison, Maine - The Owatonna Alumni Soccer team gave a valiant effort against the 2003 Owatonna Staff in a memorable soccer game held at Camp Owatonna on Friday, August 8, 2003. The Staff won the game by a score of 3-1. Alumni from across the country made the pilgrimage to Camp Owatonna to participate in the historic soccer game. The soccer game was part of a weekend full of Alumni Reunion activities at Camp Owatonna.
The reunion festivities commenced on Thursday evening
with the traditional awards banquet. Alumni were treated to a steak
dinner and provided the opportunity to observe the climatic plaque turning
at the conclusion of the evening. Friday morning started early at
5:30am on Long Lake with water skiing provided by Jamie Bollinger (thanks
Jamie!).

After a quick run up the hill for breakfast and morning meeting, the Alumni reconvened at the Owatonna beach for a memorable Cherry Island swim. Participants included Seth "Chic" Johnson, Skip Schneider, Dave Meyer, Chuck Harrick, Larry Wold, Mike Toohey, Nate Dudley, Bob Roeder, Andrew Parker, Terry Coolidge, Scott Coolidge, and Steve Vernon. Then it was back up the hill for a wonderful buffet lunch where the alumni had a chance to hear from current Director, Travis Brantingham, and also interact with current board members.
More alumni arrived for the lunch and the soccer game including Andrew Abouchar, Dave Casanave, John "Buff" Hoagland, Scott MacKenzie, Bruce Bollinger, John Thompson, Bart Jealous, Don Steckler, Don Seymour, Wells Sampson, Lou Sampson, and many others. The soccer game was a display of stamina and courage with the Alumni's lone goal coming from Steve Vernon. The Alumni also received support from Dave Steckler and Travis Brantingham.
The Parent's Weekend activities also continued on Friday evening with a joint buffet dinner and the beach Council Fire. Following the Council Fire, Alumni and Parents were treated to a concert provided by Owatonna alum Dave Pelton and Newfound alum Lisa Redfern.
Saturday morning include a special breakfast at the Newfound Gazebo followed by the annual Water-Ski Show and a jointly-held morning meeting on the Newfound beach.
The official Newfound-Owatonna web site has additional information on the reunion and some pictures from the game.
A limited number of Alumni Reunion tee-shirts are still available. Please contact Skip Schneider if you are interested in obtaining a tee-shirt (for a small donation, of course).
Special thanks to current Owatonna Director, Travis
Brantingham, and Skip Schneider for hosting and organizing this fantastic
weekend.
